PHL 236 - Philosophy of Sex, Love and Friendship


(DEIB) This course examines historical and contemporary philosophical texts on the three main types of love: philia (friendship), eros (sexual love), and agape (love of God and neighbor). Most fundamentally, we consider: what is love, what is its purpose, what is its role in human life, and how are the various types of love related? Additionally, we focus on the connection between love and happiness, love and virtue/goodness, as well as love and self-identity. Course Code: BR. Prereq: PHL.Q 101. DEIB designated course.
