ENGL.Q 130 - Hybridity

(Perspectives Enduring Questions) This course explores the theme of Hybridity through close reading and literary analysis of at least two forms, with attention to the multiple possibilities for and modes of interpretation. How and when are literary forms hybrid? What does this mean for how we understand them? How and when are identities hybrid? What does it mean to claim, celebrate or reject a hybrid identity? Students will emerge from the course able to discuss enduring questions about Hybridity through exposure to and practice of the fundamental concepts and skills of literary analysis. The course is an invitation to students to college literary study, with an eye to cultivating a lifetime practice of literary understanding and appreciation.
