MUS 402 - Music Research and Writing II


This course offers an overview of select methods and materials of research in music and addresses some of the challenges involved in writing about music. We will explore several different kinds of writing, including music analysis and criticism, and students will practice writing response papers, abstracts, article critiques, and various practical forms. The course will also include an introduction to available style manuals and provide guidelines for proper documentation of print and electronic sources in footnotes and bibliographies. Research topics covered by the course will range from Renaissance music to jazz. (Pre-req.: MUS 401)
