LST 523 - The U.S. Latino/Latina Experience This course explores how individual, social, and national identities are developed, as well as how such identity constructions fuel contemporary notions of “Americanness.” This course, which will focus on the “triangle of Latinos” in the United States (Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, and Cuban Americans), examines what it means to be Latino, exploring such topics as family, religion, gender, politics, power, class, socioeconomics, acculturation, and assimilation, and biculturalism, among others.
