MUS 223 - Music Theory III Introduces fundamental elements of diatonic and chromatic harmony and voice leading as well as basic formal schema with respect to the Western European tradition. MUS 223 builds on the material presented in MUS 123 and MUS 124. Two specific skills will be developed: 1. writing, in which you will model the compositional principles of the late Baroque and Classic periods; and, 2. analytical, in which students will be introduced to the fundamental principles of sonata, first-movement concerto, ternary (simple and compound), and rondo forms.
