MUS 414 - Romantic Era Music History & Literature An intensive study of the repertoire and cultural context of nineteenth
century music. Genres, styles, and compositional practice will be
discussed, as well as the development of the discipline of music
history and criticism. Students will be expected to
participate regularly in class discussions, listening sessions, group
analyses, and responses to class presentations. Small,
independent research projects will be assigned by the instructor, with
the possibility of one larger term project. Reading, writing,
verbal presentation, and critical skills emphasized.
