HIS 516 - Great Trials

By analyzing some of the GREAT TRIALS in history, we are able to gain a unique insight about the civility of a society and the values of its people. Through the study of some of history’s great trials, we will explore the multiple ways in which human beings create, interpret, and implement the power to decide fate of another (e.g. the Inquisition, court-martial, revolutionary and purge tactics, a jury of one’s peers, etc.), thereby strengthening our understanding about what concepts of human freedom, social power, and justice mean within a given cultural context.
