INCH 511 - Mathematics Curriculum and Methodology for Inclusive Childhood


This course combines a study of the function and organization of the childhood-level mathematics curriculum and the integration of curriculum, with a survey of current teaching resources and research-based strategies to address the learning needs of diverse learners in mathematics. Students will study the development of mathematical skills and concepts through the use of manipulative and abstract materials, with emphasis on the intuitive and inquiry methods, as per NCTM. Students will design and implement learning units that address the New York State Learning Standards in mathematics. Integrates the use of instructional and assistive technology. Additional pre- or co-requisite for students in initial certification program: EDT523. 15 hours fieldwork required.
