SWK 323 - Mental Health and Society


Introduces the study of mental health using an ecological perspective and a biopsychosocial framework. Explores causes of mental health disorders, the impact of cultural and environmental factors on mental health, and societal views on mental health through current events, diagnostic tools, and non-fiction literature. Key topics include the influence of culture, legal and ethical challenges in mental health care, and how societal attitudes shape perceptions of health and well-being. Emphasis is placed on understanding mental health within the broader context of resilience, anti-oppressive, and environmental factors. Students will examine how individuals navigate mental health challenges, highlighting strengths and resources that promote wellness.
