ADOL 480 - Adolescent Development & Youth Leadership This course is designed to explore the concept of adolescence through multiple lenses and to consider how youth voice, leadership, and activism can be harnessed to promote positive change in schools and communities. Through study of adolescent brain development, social-emotional learning, trauma-sensitive practices, psychological theories, and cultural frameworks, we will examine how adolescent identity is a conflicted space that can be both creative and limiting. The course is designed around multiple experiential learning opportunities to explore the following question: what if teens, college students, and adults from a range of racial and socio-economic backgrounds came together to: 1) understand each other better; 2) understand our segregated community; 3) raise our voices to promote positive change in our community based on our understandings and research? Prerequisites: EDIN*101, EDIN*102, EDIN*103, SPF*204, EDIN*205, EDIN*310, LST*301. Minimum grade of “C” or higher is required in all education courses. Can precede the Professional Semester with approval of the Program Director.
