Office of Graduate Student Services
The Office of Graduate Student Services, located in Smyth Hall, Room 147, is the source of general information and the point of contact for the following:
- catalogs and semester bulletins
- admission materials and student files
- class schedules
- registration information and forms
- graduate faculty mailboxes
- official forms for: registration, course change, transfer credit, name and address change, degree completion, student petition, leave of absence, audit form
NazNet
NazNet is personalized web technology available for students, faculty, and staff. It is a student’s on-line link to secure information regarding his/her class schedule, grades, financial package, and more. The NazNet system will provide a student with up-to-date information faster than traditional mailings.
Program Advisement
Advisement is mandatory for all graduate students for purposes of program planning. The Directors of the graduate programs serve as official advisors together with faculty in their respective areas.
Registrar
The Office of the Registrar is located on the lower level of Smyth Hall. This office maintains and distributes all official student records, reports, and semester grades, and verifies completed degree requirements.
An official transcript bears the seal of the College, the Registrar’s signature, and is produced on paper that cannot be faxed or copied. An official transcript can be mailed directly to an institution or employer or can be given to the student in a sealed security envelope. Written permission (including signature) is needed from students each time they request a copy of their transcript. Students may submit a transcript request form obtained from the Registrar’s Office or the Registrar’s Office website: www.naz.edu/dept/registrar, or write a brief letter of request and mail to the Registrar’s Office along with a fee of $5 for an official transcript or a $3 fee for an unofficial transcript.
Unofficial transcripts are provided to you each semester that you are enrolled as a grade report; you should retain this copy for your use. In some cases, copies of this will suffice for some forms of enrollment verification. Two weeks should be allowed for processing of transcripts. A student (or unofficial) copy is provided, in the form of a grade report, at the end of each term.
Services for Students with Disabilities
Nazareth College is committed to providing support services and assistance required for equal access for students with disabilities. Nazareth has a firm commitment to meeting the guidelines for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Qualified graduate students with documented disabilities may request appropriate accommodations to meet their learning styles and needs. Nazareth College attempts, to the best of its ability, to address these special needs. Students diagnosed as having a disability may contact the Academic Counselor for Students with Disabilities, Smyth Hall, Room 22, (585) 389-2754, for assistance. For additional information, consult the Nazareth College Handbook on Services for Students with Disabilities. The Charles Mills Writing Center offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to strengthen their written communication skills. Working individually with students from across the disciplines, Writing Center staff support students at all stages of the writing process. Career Services
The Office of Career Services, located in the Shults Center, assists students and alumni in many ways with locating employment in their chosen fields and in planning further graduate study. Career Services relies on their website to provide students with up-to-date information regarding all programs and services, and students are encouraged to use this valuable resource. Job vacancy notices, the on-campus recruitment schedule, information on job fairs, and much more are available on their website www.naz.edu/dept/career_services. Career Services coordinates a resume referral program in which student resumes are forwarded at employer request. On-campus recruitment by businesses, school districts, and social service agencies is arranged through this office. In addition, annual job fairs such as Teacher Recruitment Day, the Rochester Area Career Expo, and Human Services Recruitment Night are planned to assist Nazareth graduates with finding employment. Students and alumni may also establish a file of letters of recommendation for use by prospective employers/graduate schools.
Students and alumni are encouraged to participate in the special programs, workshops, seminars, and career awareness opportunities provided by the Career Services staff. Individual appointments for assistance may be made by calling (585) 389-2878.
