Psychology - Major

Major may be combined with the Inclusive Education (Quadruple Certification Grades 1-9) program.

Optional Honors Program is available for students with a 3.5 GPA in psychology and an overall GPA of 3.0. This program is designed to give the serious Psychology major a more in-depth experience in research as a preparation for graduate study. Students take Honors independent research in the junior year, and both History of Psychology and Senior Seminar as integrators of previous courses in the senior year.

Required Courses


Psychology majors meet the Senior Experience requirement by taking either Psy 442 (History of Psychology) or Psy 444 (Senior Seminar). Each course attempts to encourage thinking, reading and talking about psychology to encourage in the participants an appreciation of this discipline’s relationship with the disciplines of history, philosophy, religious studies, and the natural sciences.

Final acceptance into the major requires a minimum grade of C in Psy 200, 201, 202.

Required courses are:

  • one course from Area I (courses with middle digit 1);
  • one from Area II (middle digit 2);
  • one from Area III (middle digit 3);
  • nine credits in electives
