Financial Planning - Minor

This minor is designed to prepare students for careers in Financial Planning and covers the coursework needed to pass the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) exam. The CFP Board will determine exam eligibility based on a review of the student’s academic transcript.

Note - based on strict CFP Board requirements, no course substitutions are permitted in this minor.

FIN 402 Retirement and Employee Benefits Planning Credits: 3
- Prerequisites: FIN*301
FIN 403 Estate Planning and Taxation Credits: 3
- Prerequisites: FIN*301 and ACT*341
FIN 404 Financial Planning Capstone Credits: 3
- Prerequisites: FIN*401, FIN*402, FIN*403 and ECO*332
FIN 481 Financial Planning Internship Credits: 3
- Prerequisites: FIN*301 and BLDR*214
- FIN*481 replaces FIN*483 for Finance majors

COMM 207 Oral Communication Credits: 3 or COMM 210 Interpersonal Communication Credits: 3

Note - Students majoring in areas other than Finance may complete the Financial Planning minor, but must also complete: ECO.Q 102 or ECO 103 (formerly ECO.Q*101), plus ACT 209 , ACT 341 , ECO 330 , ECO 332 , FIN 349 and BLDR 214 .
