The B.F.A. in Theatre Performance is a pre-professional degree in acting with an emphasis on developing the skills necessary for the working artist of the theater. Our training however, places equal value on the holistic view that a liberal arts-based education is by definition required for a young artist. Our faculty considers critical, analytical, and independent thinking as essential skills for the creative person. Training at Nazareth takes place in small studio classes with an emphasis on individualized attention and faculty mentoring of student growth.
At Nazareth, training in theatre performance is about learning the art of collaboration by interaction with fellow artists, peers, colleagues, teachers, and working professionals, as well as fostering a lifelong appreciation for the theater arts.
As part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting pre-professional degree, students are required to complete a yearly jury at the end of each spring semester. This process is to evaluate students’ academic performance and progression in the program. Students must keep a minimum GPA of 3.0 within the major in order to continue in the program.
All students are eligible to participate in the senior showcase on campus and in New York City through an audition process.
In the summer after junior year, students are required to participate in an internship to help facilitate the transition to the profession.
