Community Youth Development - Minor

The minor in community youth development is a structured, interdisciplinary academic experience for all students that:
•Develops students’ knowledge, values and skills for meaningful interaction with youth.
•Prepares students to be active and informed citizens.
•Intentionally and coherently connects interdisciplinary academic coursework with students’ interests in youth and community-based youth development resources.

Additional Courses
In addition to the courses listed above, students are required to take a variety of courses to make up the Minor in Youth Development to achieve the required 18 hours of a minor. Internship
Community-based youth development internship approved by the director of the minor. 120-140 hours for one semester. All college policies related to internships apply. Students must be at least a junior and have a 2.5 grade point average. Senior Experience
*To be taken after completion of CYD 201 and CYD 483.
This course is designed to strengthen the integration of theory and practice by drawing the connection between CYD 201, CYD 483, other required Liberal Studies courses and the students’ major area of study. Students are required to complete a final project that provides a needed service to the community. |
