Our Mathematics Major with Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education Major is designed for students preparing to teach at the elementary level, mathematics middle school level and/or to teach students with special needs. The Mathematics portion of this program consists of 36 credits of mathematics including Exploring Mathematics, the History of Mathematics, Number Theory, and the Foundations of Geometry. Students also take a computer applications course and science courses in two different areas. In addition, students take the appropriate education courses to prepare them for the classroom.
Students are officially accepted into the Mathematics major after completion of Mth 201, Introduction to Mathematical Structures, with a C grade or better.
All Mathematics majors must maintain a 2.0 GPA, both in the major and overall and a 2.7 GPA for education.

Mathematics Core
The Mathematics core provides the foundation for all of our programs. Students take the 6 courses listed below. The individual programs add mathematical depth and breadth. The Senior Comprehensive Examination requires the students to internalize this core. Required Courses for Mathematics Major with Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education
In addition to the Mathematics core, students in the Mathematics Major with the Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education Major must take the 15 credit hours listed below. Elective Courses for Mathematics Major with Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education
Students with a Mathematics Major with the Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education Major must take both science and mathematics electives. These include: - Seven credits of science including one science lab course.

Required Courses for Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education Major
The following courses are required for the Inclusive Childhood/Middle Childhood Education major. The major prepares students for the initial teacher certification requirements in four certification areas: Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Childhood Level (Grades 1-6), Middle Childhood Education - Generalist or Content Specialist (Grades 5-9), and Teaching Students with Disabilities at the Middle Childhood Level (Grades 5-9). Mathematics Senior Experience
The Senior Experience for Mathematics is designed to promote integration of the core topics. In MTH 399, Problem Solving, students are challenged to use all facets of their mathematics background to solve diverse and open-ended mathematical problems. The skills from each of the core disciplines are tested in the Comprehensive Examination, MTH 499. Freshman Year
