Education: Initial Teacher Certification in Art Education Birth-12

Undergraduate studio art majors with a 2.7 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in studio art courses are eligible to apply to the Art Education program after the first semester of sophomore year. Applicants should complete a Declaration of Major Form available in the Academic Advisement Center.
In addition to the Art Education Program courses, students must complete the New York State Certification Examinations required for certification:
- Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAST)
- Assessment of Teaching Skills – Written (ATSW) (Because art certification is Birth –12, students may take either the Elementary or the Secondary version of the exam.)
- Content Area – Visual Arts (CST)
