Pre-Medical - Minor

The Nazareth College Pre-Medical minor prepares students
interested in applying to medical schools (esp. MD but also osteopathic,
optometry, podiatry, chiropractic, etc.). The American Medical Association
recommends that interested students regardless of the major chosen should
select courses that emphasize the skills of verbal and written comprehension,
a
critical understanding of human values and the creative power of thinking.
Nazareth College Pre-Medical students must maintain a
minimum 3.0 GPA and perform a minimum of 160 hours of community/pre-medical
clinical service. Interested students should contact the Chief Health Care
Professions Advisor, B.W. Witz, Ph.D., to
develop an appropriate course of study for their four years of college

Required Courses for Pre-Medical - Minor
The Nazareth College Pre-Medical Program was
structured using the course requirements of the American Association of Medical
Colleges (AAMC). The following courses (40 credit hours) are required for the
minor and students must complete these courses to be eligible to apply to any
allopathic medical school (MD) in the US.
Elective Courses for Pre-Medical - Minor
In addition to the required 40 credit hours, Pre-Medical
minor students are required to complete any two of the following courses:
Note: Courses must be taken with the laboratory whenever a laboratory is offered.
Additional Information
Students wishing to apply to Medical School
must do so through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) and
take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) typically during the spring of
their junior year or in the summer after their junior year. An undergraduate
GPA of 3.4/4.0 or above plus an MCAT score of 30/45 or above is highly
desirable.
