Italian Major with Inclusive Education

The general purpose of the major program is to educate
students to think and perceive rationally and critically. This will include
reading and thinking, learning about literary and cultural movements and making
connections between the primarily aesthetic literary artifacts of the culture
and its political, social and economic history.
Through the new Emerson
Foreign Language Laboratory, students are trained to use new learning and
technology media at all language levels to allow them to communicate
effectively in the world. Likewise, they are encouraged to prepare themselves
philosophically and practically to make linkages between the major and other
academic disciplines. The student majoring in Italian will learn about
the world of ideas and letters, past and present. This training requires at least one semester
study abroad; one year is recommended. The cohesive, integrated program of foreign language, culture and
literature courses ensures maximum proficiency in the target language.

Italian Core
Italian Majors are required to take the following courses (Note: Any of these courses, except for the 400 level courses, can be taken abroad.) - Four Upper Division Italian Courses (300 level) credits: 12

In affiliation with the Università degli Studi `G. d’Annunzio, Nazareth College offers its own academic year abroad program in Pescara, Italy. Italian majors and non-majors alike may take advantage of the extensive program of courses offered during the fall, the spring and the summer. Courses taken at the Università may vary in intensity, and can be taken from any of the departments: Literature and Philosophy, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Economics and Political Science. Students are fully integrated into Italian life. Activities and field trips are organized and students in the program can expect to participate regularly in social and cultural events with Italian college students. Students interested in the combined study of Italian and business are encouraged to do a business internship in Pescara in a local business setting organized in conjunction with the Pescara Chamber of Commerce. In affiliation with the Institute of Fine and Liberal Arts at Palazzo Rucellai in Florence, Nazareth College offers its own academic year abroad in Florence, Italy. Students majoring or minoring in Art, Studio Art, International Studies and History are encouraged to take advantage of the extensive number of courses offered at the Scuola Rucellai. The following courses are required for Quad Inclusive Education certification. The Quad Inclusive program includes: Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Childhood with Disabilities (Grades 1-6), Middle Childhood (Grades 5-9), and Middle Childhood with Disabilities (Grades (5-9). Italian Senior Experience
The Senior Experience for Italian majors culminates with two literature seminars, ITL 405-406, that encourage students to develop further scholarly and critical thinking, including current theoretical discussions in the academy.
The Comprehensive Examination (written, oral) provides students with the threefold opportunity: - to demonstrate a working knowledge of Italian culture and literature
