Theatre Arts Major with Inclusive Education

The Theatre Arts Major with Inclusive Certification Program
is designed for students preparing to teach at the Elementary and Middle School
levels and/or to teach students with special needs. The Theatre Arts portion of this program
consists of 41 credits and production participations to complete the B.A.
degree in Theatre Arts. Participation in
college theatrical productions and departmental work calls is required. A total of seven (7) production labs are
required in at least four (4) different areas with at least one “preparation”
[P] and one “run crew” [R] experience in any of the following areas: Acting;
Assistant Stage Management; Costumes (P, R); Scenery (P, R); Properties (P, R);
Makeup (P,R); Special Projects (P,R).
In addition, students take the appropriate education courses to prepare
them for the classroom.
All Theatre Arts majors must maintain a 2.0 GPA, both in the
major and overall. In order to be eligible for the Professional
Semester (i.e. Student Teaching), students must maintain a GPA above
2.7.

Theatre Arts Core
Students in the Theatre Arts department are required to take the following core courses: Movement Courses
Select two movement courses from the following: Production Labs
Take five one credit production labs from four different areas: - Acting
- Assistant Stage Manager
- Costume Crew
- Scenic
- Lighting
- Sound
- Props
- Make-up
- Special Project
- Stage Management
Additional Theatre Arts Requirements
Theatre Arts students must complete the following additional courses: Theatre Arts Elective Courses
Theatre Arts students who are pursuing Inclusive Certification must take one theatre elective at the 200 level and one theatre elective at the 300/400 level. In most cases, students must select the theatre electives that are designated as liberal arts courses in order to earn enough liberal arts credits for the bachelor of arts degree. The following courses are required for Quad Inclusive Education certification. The Quad Inclusive program includes: Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Childhood with Disabilities (Grades 1-6), Middle Childhood (Grades 5-9), and Middle Childhood with Disabilities (Grades (5-9). Theatre Arts Senior Experience
The Senior Experience for Theatre majors consists of a required seminar (THA 452- Seminar in Theatre with a zero-credit internship). In this course, the students reflect on their major experience, and they are given opportunities to integrate material from theatre and other core areas of the college experience.
