Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS A-Z

The B.F.A. in Acting for Stage and Screen is a professional acting training program in a liberal arts setting. Training at Nazareth takes place in small studio classes with individual attention and faculty mentoring to make students ready for the rigorous world of professional performance. This program accelerates your acting training through immersion in both stage and screen acting techniques, starting in your first year.  In this professional acting training program, you’ll learn how to meet the expectations of contemporary casting directors and create professional relationships in the field.

Students in the major study acting each semester.  During the four years of study, majors take courses in improvisation, auditioning, voice, movement, Shakespeare, directing and design. In addition, 2 semesters of dance and voice lessons are required.

Each semester Acting for Stage and Screen majors audition for the department season and accept the role assigned, or if not cast, accept a production assignment. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 within their major and are evaluated annually to ensure that they are making meaningful progress.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Integrate body, voice, and imagination to generate truthful, embodied action and reaction in response to internal and external stimuli.
  • Apply stage and screen acting techniques with control and adaptability, including voice, movement, text, camera awareness, and spatial relationships.
  • Create authentic, compelling performances that communicate clear objectives, emotional truth, and narrative intention across live and mediated platforms.
  • Analyze and contextualize dramatic texts and roles through historical, cultural, and stylistic research to inform performance choices.
  • Articulate and enact a professional artistic identity by practicing accountability, collaboration, ethical conduct, and self-reflection within the industry and broader community.
