Mathematics Major with Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education Major

Students preparing to teach at the early childhood and childhood levels may double major in Mathematics and Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education. The mathematics portion of this program consists of 42 credits of mathematics, including Exploring Mathematics, the History of Mathematics, Real Analysis or Abstract Algebra, Foundations of Geometry, and Mathematical Programming. In addition, students take the appropriate education courses to prepare them for the classroom.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Students will reason, construct and evaluate mathematical arguments.
- Students will know, understand, and apply the process of mathematical problem solving.
- Students will communicate their mathematical thinking orally and in writing to peers, faculty, and others.
- Students will demonstrate a positive disposition toward mathematical processes and mathematical learning.
- Students will demonstrate their knowledge of specific mathematics concepts and procedures.
- Students will use technology to learn mathematics.
- Students will possess a deep understanding of how students learn mathematics and of the pedagogical knowledge specific to mathematics teaching and learning.

Core Curriculum Requirements
All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions. Mathematics Core for Mathematics Major with Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education
The Mathematics core provides the foundation for all of our programs. Students take 7 courses (19 credits) listed below. The individual programs add mathematical depth and breadth. The Senior Comprehensive Problem Solving Seminar engages the student in integrating and applying a broad range of skills and concepts.

Mathematics Senior Experience
The comprehensive experience evaluates student mastery in mathematical thinking. Students are actively involved in investigating collections of non-routine problems from a variety of sources. Students will be required to demonstrate their understanding and application of fundamental concepts, processes, representations and communication of mathematics. Freshman Year
