Music History - Minor

The Music History Minor is open to all students but was designed primarily for students in the following degree programs: Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Music Performance, Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy, Bachelor of Science in Music Business.

Students will consult with their advisor to choose an appropriate mix of classes to complete this 18 credit minor.

MUS 211 - The History of Western Music I: Antiquity to 1600 Credits: 3
MUS 212 - The History of Western Music II: 1600 To the Late Nineteenth Century Credits: 3
MUS 317 - The History of Western Music III: Music Since 1900 Credits: 3
In the event that students are granted exemptions from any of the above core courses, they may substitute upper-division courses in their place.

MUS 401 - Music Research and Writing Credits: 3
As part of the class, students in MUS 401 must complete a music theory project

MUS 413 - Topics in Classical Era Music History Credits: 3
MUS 414 - Topics in Romantic Era Music History Credits: 3
MUS 415 - Topics in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Music History Credits: 3
MUS 416 - Special Topics in Music History Credits: 3
Students may take MUS 416 multiple times, as long as each iteration addresses a different topic
