These programs are designed to prepare students to teach at the middle and high school levels in a content area and/or working with students with disabilities. Students have the option of adding a special education sequence to obtain a dual certification. It will enable students to be knowledgeable about the characteristics of preadolescent and adolescent learners and it will provide the essential skills and methodologies to enable teachers to create student focused and engaging lessons that are standards based. These teacher certification programs were developed with academic departments. Students who successfully complete this program will be recommended to New York State Education Department for Initial Teacher Certification in one of the following areas:
Biology Social Studies
Business and Marketing
Chemistry
English
Languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish
Social Studies (Major: History)
Mathematics
• Students must have a minimum of 30 credit hours in their content area of certification
• Students must have two courses in the same foreign language
