Students completing the Accounting major will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as an active member of the profession. Students completing the BS in Accounting will:
- Be immersed in a business core curriculum that provides an understanding of economics, management, marketing, technology, finance, and entrepreneurial and global issues.
- Develop proficiency in the areas of communication (oral and written), critical thinking and teamwork that will enable them to be skilled professionals.
- Learn to use sound professional judgment to resolve problems in an analytical and ethical manner.
- Balance their professional education with studies in the liberal arts to better understand the role of the professional in business and to promote life-long learning and the pursuit of personal growth.
In addition, students completing the BS/MS in Accounting will:
- Meet the requirements to sit for the New York State CPA exam,
- be encouraged to pursue an internship in accounting, to gain valuable work experience for academic credit.
A GPA of at least 2.5 is required for all Accounting courses and also for the overall GPA for completion of a BS in Accounting. A GPA of at least 2.7 is required to continue on in the MS Accounting Program.
