Chairperson: Kimberly McGann, Ph.D. Professors: Kisiara, Ph.D. and McGann, Ph.D.; Associate Professor: Roy, Ph.D.; Assistant Professors: Hagerty, Ph.D.

The sociology and anthropology department is a vibrant and diverse department offering majors in sociology, technology & society, and social sciences along with minors in sociology, anthropology, and social research.

Sociology is the study of how where we are and when we are affects who we are and what happens to us in contexts as diverse as an individual’s day to day life to global-level relationships between countries. The technology & society major focuses specifically on the role of technology in the social world and how it impacts not just individuals but also social institutions and the nature of relationships between people. The social science major integrates five academic disciplines-anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics, and political science and is an ideal major for those seeking a particularly wide breadth of perspectives.

While each program is different, all foster an understanding of how the way a society is “set up” affects what happens to individuals and they all build understanding of how social change occurs and how those changes shape the world we live in.
