SOC 204 - Social Problems

Where did the term “litter bug” come from? How did public opinion shift on the legalization of cannabis? Why is it so difficult to establish a healthcare system that works for everyone? In short, how does something become a social problem? This course will examine how situations become constructed as social problems in the public mind as well as the extent, causes, and possible solutions of selected current social problems such as income inequality, mass incarceration, healthcare, and climate change.
