HIS.Q 107 - East Asian Civilizations II (PEQ History) What are the key social, political, and intellectual structures that lie at the heart of cultures? This course explores this question in the context of East Asian civilizations from the start of the seventeenth century to the early twenty first century. We will examine the search for national identity in a rapidly changing world, the clash of tradition versus modernization, patriarchy and the subversion of power, evolving religious institutions, power relations, and competing ideologies.
