ATR 660 - Multicultural Issues and Practice in Art Therapy


The course addresses the social, political and multicultural concerns that occur in the therapeutic relationship between the art therapist and the client. The student will develop an understanding of Multicultural competence related to working with diverse communities, understanding privilege and oppression and reflective thinking in regards to their own attitudes, values, and beliefs. The process of developing multicultural competence involves a three-stage sequence of awareness, knowledge, and skills. Multicultural competence implies a specific and measurable set of deliberate actions and results that increase the ability to serve diverse populations.
