ENGL 521 - 20th Century America through Literature

This graduate course offers a sampling of modern American literature from the early to late twentieth-century. Students will examine the concepts of America” and “the American,” how writers have positioned themselves in relation to society, and have represented “the Other” in their society, and have represented “the Other” in their development of a quintessentially American aesthetic sensibility.”
