ENGS 101 - Introduction to the Writing Process

This course is designed to introduce you to the various elements of the writing process and helps to prepare you for future academic writing. The main purpose of ENGW 090 is to help you clearly understand how writing does not occur in a vacuum. Nor is writing a slap-dash, throw-it-together-the-night before system. It is a process with steps that will take you to clear communication with any specific audience. In order to accomplish this, you will receive intensive instruction and practice in the various steps of writing. This will include learning to analyze your audience, deciding which of the various prewriting techniques work best for you, organizing and developing your work so that you can have confidence in you ability to communicate in writing. Reading is also a key factor in this course. The considerable amount of reading will provide effective models, help generate ideas for essays and help develop and reinforce critical reading skills.
