MUS 317 - History of Western Music: Ideas, Genres, and Styles in Music Since 1900


The course will explore significant developments in Western European and American music from 1900 to the present, and will investigate the aesthetic trends, “isms,” compositional techniques, and genres of music, including the classical, jazz, and popular styles; and consider the impact of technology, including innovations in notation and performance practice.
