SWK 323 - Understanding Mental Health from a Wellness Perspective


Focuses on the ecological perspective on health and mental health. Examines the etiology of mental health disorders, the psychosocial traits and behavioral coping of those diagnosed with mental disorders according to the DSM-5TR and evaluation of this classification; promotes critical analysis of cultural influences including oppressive factors shaping the determination of health and mental health, and the environmental factors relevant to the formation and classification of mental disorders, health and well-being. Teaches students to both use and critically examine the DSM 5TR. Special attention devoted to the assessment and diagnosis of substance abuse. Course Codes: AB.
