Contemporary Commercial Music - Minor

The Contemporary Commercial Music minor provides students the knowledge and skills necessary to exceed as multi-faceted musicians and professionals in the diverse field of contemporary commercial music. Contemporary commercial music would include such areas Blues, Rock, Pop, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, World, Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B, Jazz and Electronic music. Total 18 credit hours required.

Required Courses


Elective Courses


Students must select a minimum of one elective course from the courses listed below. Other elective courses may be credited with permission of program director.

Portfolio


Students enrolled in the Contemporary Commercial Music Minor will build a portfolio that by their senior year will include the following:

  1. Compose, perform, record, produce a contemporary commercial music EP of 4-6 songs. This would include both original and covers of contemporary music pieces.
  2. A reflection paper on the student’s ensemble experiences associated with contemporary commercial music.
