The Middle Eastern Studies (MES) Minor is a program of intensive study of the region that stretches from Morocco in the west to Turkey in the north, to Afghanistan in the east and to Yemen in the south. Students develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the Middle East by learning about the religions, literatures, history, and politics of the region. The MES program includes the option of studying a language of the region.
This is an 18 credit minor; it requires six courses from this list. No more than two courses can be taken in one discipline. PSC courses and courses cross listed as HIS/PSC count as one single discipline, regardless of the prefix under which students register in them. Thus, students may only take two of them. Students who take language courses in fulfillment of the minor may not count language labs as part of the total 18 credits.
