Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS A-Z

Students seeking initial certification at the early childhood and childhood levels may double major in Chemistry and Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education. Students in this double major are required to have a minimum overall GPA of 2.7 before moving into INCH coursework which typically begins fall semester of the junior year.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students completing courses in CAS at Nazareth College will communicate effectively through critical reading, writing, and oral presentation skills.
  2. Students completing the program in chemistry or biochemistry at Nazareth College will demonstrate the ability to communicate the concepts and results of experiments through effective written and oral communication skills.
  3. Students completing the program in chemistry or biochemistry at Nazareth College will be able to understand the objective of experiments, properly execute experiments, and accurately record and analyze results.
  4. Students completing the program in chemistry or biochemistry at Nazareth College will be able to demonstrate mastery of core principles within the major sub-disciplines of chemistry: analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic and physical.

Core Curriculum Requirements

All Nazareth students complete Core Curriculum coursework as part of their degree requirements. The Core provides a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences while guiding students to pose and explore their own intellectual questions. See Academic Policies and Procedures  for specific core curriculum requirements.

Chemistry Senior Experience

This course seeks to integrate the technical aspects of chemistry with the ability to communicate scientific information effectively. To achieve this goal, students are assigned a topic of current scientific interest that combines chemistry with other disciplines in order to answer some fundamental question. Students demonstrate their ability to independently research and communicate their findings in a professional manner to an audience of their peers and faculty.

Foreign Language Requirement

  • Students must complete three credits in a Modern Foreign Language.
