The B.F.A. in Acting is a pre-professional degree in acting with an emphasis on developing the skills necessary for the working artist in theater. Training at Nazareth takes place in small studio classes with an emphais on individualized attention and faculty mentoring of student growth to make students ready for the rigorous world of professional performance.
As part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting pre-professional degree, students are required to audition each semester and accept any role assigned. Students are evaluated by a faculty committee each year to ensure that he or she is making meaningful progress. Students must keep a minimum GPA of 3.0 within the major in order to continue in the program. In the summer of the junior year, students are required to participate in a theater internship to help facilitate the transition to the profession. Students are eligible to participate in the senior showcase on campus and in New York City through an audition process.
With a particular emphasis on Shakespearean dramatic and performance studies, the B.F.A. in Acting places equal value on the holistic view that a liberal arts-based education is by definition required for a young artist. Our faculty considers critical, analytical, and independent thinking learned in the liberal arts core as essential skills for the creative person.
