Social Work - Major

The B.S. degree in social work requires extensive supervised field experience. It makes use of Rochester-area health and human service agencies to acquaint students with the diverse opportunities existing in the social work field.

Students are required to receive at least a ‘C’ grade in all required SWK courses and maintain a 2.3 overall average in SWK, in order to continue in the major.

Senior Experience for Social Work

Senior Integrative Seminar (SWK 452), concurrent with the field practicum (SWK 484), strengthens the integration of theory and practice by emphasizing the linkages between the liberal arts and all components of the social work curriculum and practice. It further sharpens the student’s ability to question and to think critically; to explore personal, professional and cultural values as well as ethical issues; to prepare for productive contributions to the profession and society; and to engage in life-long learning.

The senior electronic portfolio (SWK 499) assesses the student in the required content areas in social work, allows for further opportunities for linkages with the liberal arts, and provides outcome assessment information for the social work faculty.
