Marketing Major

The marketing program is part of the School of Management. This program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. It combines the professional discipline with a solid foundation in the arts and sciences.

The goal of the marketing major is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain access to entry-level marketing positions in general marketing, sales, customer service, marketing communications, market research, public relations, and other marketing-related fields.

Students pursuing the marketing major will:
•Develop an entrepreneurial perspective and a thorough understanding of the functional areas of business.
•Develop the expertise needed by marketing professionals: a command of oral and written communication; social, technological, analytical, and critical thinking skills; and cultural competency.
•Acquire knowledge of the global environment and the economic, demographic, social, political, and psychological forces that shape the domestic and international marketplace.
•Develop a global perspective coupled with the cultural competency and sensitivity needed to interact successfully with individuals who have different backgrounds and perspectives.
•Develop the ability to understand and evaluate the ethical and moral issues related to doing business in a global business environment.
•Understand the true role of marketing in modern organizations.
•Develop a better understanding of how marketers attempt to influence private and public demand for goods, services, ideas, people, and places.
•Establish a solid foundation for additional study at the graduate level.
