Information Technology - Major

The mission of the information technology major is to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of how to design and integrate information technology solutions to the business needs facing the modern organization. This program supplies the student with the necessary business and technology skills while building critical decision-making, teamwork, and leadership skills to gain an entry-level position that could lead to a career as a leader in our knowledge-based global industry.

Upon completion of the Information Technology program at Nazareth College students will be ale to:

1. Analyze a problem and define proper computing requirements appropriate for the solution
2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computer program or process to meet specified needs
3. Function effectively as a member or leader on technical teams to accomplish a common goal
4. Discuss ethical, legal, and social issues and responsibilities of a computing professional
5. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences using a range of modalities including written, oral and graphical
6. Analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society
7. Assist in the creation of an effective project plan
8. Engage in self-directed continuing professional development

4. Employ IT tools to accomplish a given task for business productivity, project management and software development.

5. Discuss ethical, legal and social issues and responsibilities of a computing professional

6. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental principles of human computer interaction

7. Evaluate the influences of technology such as e-commerce, globalization, and telecommuting on the conduct of business operations and identify the prevailing legal issues associated with information technology in society and the workplace

8. Provide up-to-date instructional technology to faculty and students.

9. Integrate the basic functions of database systems, local networks, web systems, information security processes into project design, development and implementation

10. Integrate the theory and practice of information technology with the fundamental principles of in human computer interaction

11. Demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental information technology applications for office productivity, project management and software development in a modern organization
