Social Science Major with Inclusive Education

A Major Program in Social Science

Required
Introductory courses in four of the following: Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology; SSC 444; a specialization of 12 credits beyond the introductory course in one of the Social Science disciplines; 9 credits upper-division, from among the other four Social Science disciplines. A minimum of three credits in each Social Science discipline, introductory or upper-division is required. The Anthropology specialization requires MTH 207, SOC 352, ANT 101, 102, 318 and two upper-division anthropology electives. The Economics specialization requires MTH 207, ECO 101, 102, 333, 334; ECO 410 or SOC 352 and an upper-division economics elective. The Political Science specialization requires MTH 207, PSC 201, PSC 352, and three upper-division political science electives. The Psychology specialization requires PSY 101 or 102, 201, 202 and a course from two of the three areas in Psychology. The Sociology specialization requires MTH 207, SOC 101, SOC 352, two courses from these: SOC 204, 314, 320, 409 and 410; one upper-division sociology elective. The senior experience consists of a senior seminar (SSC 444) which integrates material from social science and other liberal arts core areas (history, philosophy, religious studies, literature, natural sciences, mathematics, fine arts), and a senior comprehensive (SSC 499).

The Social Science major may be combined with the Inclusive Education (Quadruple Certification Grades 1-9) program.

Within the Social Science Major with Inclusive Education, students specialize in one of five areas: Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Thus there are five program variations within this major.
