Business and Marketing Education K-12 - Major

The Business and Marketing Education Program is part of the School of Management.  The program offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Marketing Education.  Business and Marketing Education students must select one area of specialization.  The choices are Office Technology, Accounting or Marketing.

The mission of the program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed as active and productive business teachers at the secondary and post-secondary levels.
 

The specific objectives are to:

 

  • Educate students in the profession of teaching in both traditional and inclusive classroom settings
  • Foster commitment to a professional teaching career through intellectual, ethical and aesthetic values.
  • Develop skills necessary for the pursuit of a meaningful vocation as a business teacher.
  • Focus on the development of the total person: a competent, effective, intellectual, communicative and reflective individual.
  • Inspire dedication to the idea of service to community.

 

The Business and Marketing Education Program curriculum is quite broad and diverse and rooted in the liberal arts tradition. The program is designed to integrate the best theory and practice and facilitate the transition from student to teacher. 

The future business and marketing education teacher learns his/her craft by observing, analyzing, teaching and interacting with other professionals.

Students who successfully complete this program will receive New York State Initial Teacher Certification in Business and Marketing Education (K – Grade 12).

A minimum GPA of 2.7 is required.

Business and Marketing Education K-12 Core


Business and Marketing Education majors are required to complete the following requirements:

  • Foreign Language credits: 6

In addition to the core courses listed above, students are required to select one of the following concentrations, and complete two courses in that concentration.

Business and Marketing Education K-12 Senior Experience


BME 465 (Student Teaching), provides the Senior experience for the majors. In this course students will complete projects and/or submit papers which will give them the opportunity to make connections between the knowledge and insights gained from the Perspectives I and II courses and those courses within the major.
