The department’s undergraduate degree programs offer students majors in studio art, art education, and art history. Studio art majors must concentrate in one of the following areas: painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, or metals. A recognized specialization in graphics/illustration is also available to studio art majors. In addition to these programs, the department offer a Master’s of Education in art.

The art department’s mission is to develop in students high levels of knowledge, skill, critical thinking, creativity, and aesthetic understanding in a context of diversity.

The full-time faculty, composed of studio artists, art historians, and art educators, is supplemented by a number of practicing professionals, highly respected in their areas. Strong working relationships are maintained with many local museums, schools, and graphics firms, providing students with an active internship program.

Graduates in art education have pursued careers teaching in school systems locally and around the country. Students who graduate with a specialization in graphics/illustration are employed by many local and national advertising and design firms. The art careers of Nazareth alumni vary widely, from independent studios to TV/film production, Hollywood set sculpting, gallery management, architecture, publications, museum work, art conservation, and design. Art history and studio art graduates who have gone on to earn advanced degrees are teaching at colleges and universities in the United States and Europe.
