The Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders is a pre-professional program in speech-language pathology and audiology. Students who follow the major sequence and satisfy additional minimum course requirements and competencies also meet the requirements established by the New York State Department of Education for initial certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities. The program is designed to prepare students for graduate study in the area of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Deaf Education. Students are provided opportunities to apply their knowledge through work in the campus Speech and Hearing Clinic, and through off-campus service learning opportunities. Students pursuing initial teacher certification also complete a student teaching experience.

As a part of the Senior Experience, students participate in three senior seminars. These promote the integration of liberal arts and the major by encouraging critical thinking, problem solving, reflection on professional experiences, and discussion of ethical and cultural issues. The seminars encourage in the participants an appreciation of the relationship of the major with disciplines such as history, philosophy, religious studies and the natural and social sciences.
