PHL 332 - The Modern Quest for Identity: Descartes to MLK This course explores historical notions of the self and human identity. Starting with Descartes (I think, therefore I am), the course examines the historical development of self-identity in Kant, Nietzsche, and the existentialists up through contemporary feminist and Black conceptions of identity in such thinkers as de Beauvoir, Nussbaum, Arendt, Dubois, Fanon, and Martin Luther King.
