PHL 290 - Existentialism


Often conceived less as a philosophy and more as a revolt against the traditional philosophy, existentialism focuses on such themes as the relation between the individual and society, the significance of human choice, the meaning of suffering in human life, the reality of death and the relation between existence and absurdity. Readings from such authors as Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Sartre, Kafka, Camus, and Dostoyevsky. Course Codes: BR. Prerequisite: PHL.Q 101.
