INCH 614 - Literacy, Language Arts and Social Studies II: Curriculum and Methodology for Inclusive Childhood


This course develops in-depth understanding of current theory, research in, and teaching applications of literacy, language arts, and social studies content and curriculum. Students will engage in advanced study on how reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing skills develop as they are used in language, literature and composition. Students will also engage in advanced study of the development of historical, economic, civic, and geographic understandings and link that to learners at the childhood level. Critical issues in language arts and social studies education, especially the needs of diverse learners at the childhood level, will also be explored. This course will have an emphasis on multiple literacies and the exploration of social studies through multiple perspectives. Prerequisite: INCL 602.

Prerequisites & Notes
Course project will require that students spend time in a classroom setting outside of class. Pre-requisite: INCL 602. Term cycle: fall. Yearly cycle: all years.
