RES 340 - Jesus Across Religions and Cultures

Who is Jesus and why does he matter? The answers vary depending on who poses the question! We will explore Jesus as a Jewish Rabbi, Christian Savior, and Muslim Prophet. We will engage the question of whether he traveled to India and conversed with Hindus and Buddhists. We will question why he is an exemplar to humanist Nones and political revolutionaries. We will probe by examining images and understandings of Jesus in texts and creeds, film, music and art, as well as prayer and worship across cultures and generations. Course Codes: B.
