ENGL 306 - Shakespeare’s Tragedies and Romances

Examines Shakespeare’s later plays, which plumb the depths of tragedy and explore the possibility of redemption. Plays typically covered include Othello, King Lear, and The Tempest; works which speak to twenty-first centry concerns, such as racism, colonialism, and economic justice. Close reading of the playtexts is supplemented by analysis of stage productions and cinematic adaptations. Course Codes: BHR. Prereq: PEQ in Literature.
