AHI.Q 123 - History of Photography


(PEQ Visual Performing Arts) What role does photographic imagery play in our lives? This course is a study of photography as a descriptive and expressive art form from the 1830s through the middle of the 20th Century. Students will examine many of the technical developments (e.g. chemistry, optics, etc.) that make photography, as we know it today, possible. Emphasis will also be placed on exploring how photography has been used as both a means for documentation and as a vehicle for self-exploration and personal creative expression. Individual photographers and their photographs will be examined in light of aesthetic, social and cultural trends, both past and present. Course Codes: BR. This PEQ course counts as a Global course.
